InTony Allen recorded his debut album, Jealousy, the first of three made with Africa 70 and produced by Fela Kuti. Jealousy is according to many still the highlight of his 4 solo-albums, featuring 2 afro-beat gems 'Jealousy' and 'Hustler'. But by he was ready for a change of scene, and a year later he parted company with Kuti.
This latest release from Jameses Shaw and Ford is yet another hook-filled cut lifted from their much vaunted Attack Decay Sustain Release album, which compensates for its irritating vocal by offloading some sweet synth riffage along the way. This CD version includes the Armand Van Helden remix of the original, which keeps the vocal in but ditches the riff. It's not nearly as tiresome as you might imagine though, featuring some Alter Ego-style laser beam oscillations and a solid, functional beat whose only real crime is that it doesn't really go anywhere.
